Tidal Sea Glass: Carlsbad Santa Set

Shoppes at Carlsbad is a shopping mall located in San Diego, and they were renovating their spaces. As part of Centerstage Productions design team, I got to be the design lead under my director, Cory Surovek, for the design of this Santa environment.

Carlsbad Holiday Regal Tide Sea glass imbues Carlsbad’s signature color palette to represent a signature Christmas experience personal to Carlsbad itself. As Carlsbad is located in San Diego, this set is intended to bring a white Snowy Christmas to California.

An experiential Christmas set that will serve as a photo taking booth with Santa. Shoppes at Carlsbad clients wanted a design that was coherent to their brand colors and an opportunity to invite shoppers to engage in the seasonal festivity of Christmas.

Carlsbad regal tide seaglass palette is reminiscent of an arctic winter with snow canopies, and a touch of gold that is nostalgic of winter sunshine; a color palette specific to Carlsbad’s brand identity.

Throughout the entire fabrication and build phase, there were interesting technical concerns on shipping in crates across the United States and assembling it on site, which influenced the way it was cut for assembly. This includes the integrated Christmas tree structure, as well as the upholstery of Santa chair which I was responsible in the design for assembly using the CNC tool pathing machines.

Installation Liaison Wireframe:

As most installations occur at night in order not to disrupt  businesses within shopping malls, there was a need to improve communication between CSP and the fabricators during odd hours on the progress of installs. Moreover, when 3rd party installers were responsible for the installation, it was essential to task them in informing us when they were completed in order to stay up to date, so we launched a design application to serve the needs of these installers to improve the communication between different parties.
